Hello there gamers and fans of Nicki Minaj!
Nicki Minaj just made a new release: this time, NOT a new music video or album, but a celebrity app, which lets you to create your own hip-hop lyrics and rap over “studio-quality custom beats.” Designed by Glu, the company behind a series of other celebrity apps, including Kim Kardashian’s Hollywood, the app was launched on both Android and IOS, and judging by the hype it has managed to create within a week, it’s safe to say it’s going to be one of the most successful celebrity apps ever released.
One good thing about the app is that it can be used by anyone—whether or NOT they think they can rap. Those NOT confident enough can simply use the template provided to fill out rhymes. And although the app has some word options that you can choose from to fill in the blanks, it also allows you to exercise your creativity and come up with your own. You can decide to follow the predetermined storyline or hang around for the incorporated story mode drama, if NOT, head straight to the rap mode and make some tunes.
Dubbed Nicki Minaj: The Empire, its story line takes the same format as any other celebrity game you know. The story begins by portraying you, the gamer, as an average Joe trying to make it BIG in the celebrity world. Then, as luck would have it, you bump into a celebrity (Nicki Minaj) who happens to be kind enough to listen to your plight and take you under her care. She offers to help you record your first single, guiding you every step of the way and even promoting the songs after they’re released to get your name up there. Your goal at this point should be to grow your fan base and increase the amount of money you make from song sales. At the same time, the game tries to inculcate important values, most of which have led to the fall out many celebrity figures. Unlike the recently released Kyle Jenner’s game, which appears to be centered on the value of friendship, this one focuses more on being self-driven and the power of believing in both yourself and the skills you have.
The first-rate graphics used try to bring out the early hip-hop feel. They’re more street and graffiti-like, something an ardent hip-hop head would have NO trouble relating to. All characters come rendered in bold colors, dressed up in hip, urban outfits that take you back to the early days when hip-hop was the craze. Sort of reminds you of how the early hip-hop heads used to dress when hip-hop was being discovered in the Bronx.
Nicki has made it clear that she’ll be showcasing some of the best raps recorded on the app. And if that’s the case, then we’ll surely have a number of breakout rap stars that will be directing all their credit to Nicki and her great app.
